If I had to be away from my friends and family, get shot at, not have any comforts or pleasures of home and deal with people that hated me for 15 months at a time straight I'd probably be suicidal too.In vietnam you served for 1 entire year. Linux isnt a better product, it hasnt failed because people are used to windows, its failed because nothing works in a straight forward way, and is unneccessarily complex. Even as an experienced IT user and worker, I just want things to work, and for me to do complex things inside the program, rather than ***** about for a while just to get installed. Thats why noone will ever use Linux for anything other than servers.

Updating will protect you from many malwares. It will not protect you from all.AV software is ad hoc. Firewall is proactive. So is creating the software products right in the first place - not baking the vulnerability into them in the first place. You cannot put all the responsibility on the user's shoulders.Safety begins at home and most malware spreads because of badly written software - OS, apps, or both - with plugins & documents also contributing problems. But good apps and OS are supposed to be constructed in such a way that this cannot happen without a user being warned, or at all - ideally.If the problem never gets corrected, then it is up to buyers - customers, officers, and purchasing agents to buy different things.
