I was one of the people that bought a boxed copy of Windows 7. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 that came with Windows XP on it. I upgraded it to Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and everything seemed like it was OK. Then it started randomly crashing simple programs (even notepad!) It would happen every 5 minutes. I updated all the Vista hardware drivers, same problem. I updated the BIOS on my system, same problem. I "downgraded" to Vista Ultimate x86, same problem. I installed 32-bit Windows XP - no problems!So a few weeks ago my hard drive died and I thought "I'll give Windows 7 one chance". Well, the system that could not run Vista works perfectly with Windows 7. It is such an upgrade over XP, I am not surprised at all that their boxed editions are selling quickly.
